1992 BMW 850i

This 1992 BMW 850i is no ordinary grand tourer. It is a one of a kind expression of performance and luxury where timeless design meets modern engineering. The first model of the 8 series, the original car offered sleek styling, V12 sophistication, and a glimpse into the brand’s ambitious future. Over 20,000 units of the BMW 850i and the 850Ci with the M70 engine were produced and sold from 1989 to 1994. But where it emphasized form over function, this 2-door coupé elevates the already significant 8 Series with a custom-built supercharged “M Series” tribute (M SC). Upgraded in-house by the Lubeck team, the 1992 BMW 850i is crafted for both show and serious driving.

The original car had insufficient horsepower for its size and weight, requiring serious updates. It weighed a hefty 4,100 pounds; about as much as the long-wheelbase sedan, which shared its engine. Under the hood now lies a custom built supercharged V12 paired to a modified automatic transmission and custom-built limited-slip differential, a massive improvement from the original powertrain. The car preserves the factory aesthetics while enhancing performance, design, and detail. The BMW 850i’s delivery is confident and relentless, backed by a suite of mechanical upgrades including a reinforced front and rear suspension setup and oversized brakes (6-piston front, 4-piston rear) for truly modern stopping power.

Drawing inspiration from the ultra-rare 850CSi, the car features a full aerodynamic setup with sculpted front and rear bumpers. It retains the look and appeal of the original, but is injected with supercharged excitement and aggression, resulting in up to 500 horsepower.

Inside, the formerly subdued cabin has been completely reupholstered in personalized leather and Alcantara, with custom M series colors running subtly through the seat belt stitching, steering wheel, and even the engine bay, serving as an homage to BMW’s racing heritage. The interior was also enhanced with new custom seats and carbon fiber trim, as well as the custom steering wheel. These modifications and precise details add a personal signature to the car. The original 850i’s interior was considered plain; this one is anything but.

Taken apart and entirely reassembled, this 1992 BMW 850i is not just restored but is entirely reimagined. It remains faithful to the spirit of the original while improving on its mechanical shortcomings, serving as both a love letter to a heritage BMW and as a bold transformation into a true one of a kind grand tourer.
